Exploring Charlotte’s Off-Leash Dog Areas
Our Insider Guide makes it easy for you and your pet pals to have fun at off-leash Charlotte dog parks. We’ve collected the best spots to bring your four-legged friends for some fun in the Queen City.
Frazier Dog Park
Pups will have the perfect time frolicking off-leash with their new furry friends at Frazier Dog Park, an enormous pet park with plenty of shade located just off I-77. The park is split up into two sections — one for smaller dogs to socialize in and a larger area best suited to bigger breeds.
The fenced runs are both spacious and offer plenty of places for you to sit and revel in the gorgeous scenery while your dog plays. Outfitted with water bowls, a doggie pool, fountains, and an assortment of toys and attached to miles of walking trails so you can continue your pet time, the adventurous atmosphere of Frazier Dog Park will have your pup begging to return.
Skiptown
It’s easy to see why Skiptown is the talk of the town for off-leash fun. This first-of-its-kind pup park in Charlotte features 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor off-leash play areas, along with plenty for humans to do as well. Owners will enjoy an onsite bar with dozens of on-tap brews, including one for pups — a bone broth “beer.”
Skiptown doesn’t skimp on any luxurious perks for your pooch, thanks to lush shaded areas, a splash pad agility course, and plenty of watering spots. The cool atmosphere of Skiptown is enhanced by the addition of events on its calendar, including breed meet-ups and occasional food truck roundups in the evenings and on weekends. This South End gem more than fits the bill for off-leash fun.
William Davies Park
This massive wooded dog park is a well-equipped Charlotte favorite, with plenty of spots for both humans and their pups to relax. Multiple play yard areas in both open, sunny, and shaded areas make William Davies Park ideal for year-round fun, regardless of weather.
With a mix of grass and gravel underfoot, dogs will appreciate a soft landing while they say hello and play with friends, thanks to a nice sandy soil that’s easy on the paws. Multiple water spigots are available for thirsty pups, and the area’s proximity to trees means there's always the occasional squirrel to chase.
Shuffletown Park
Your canine companions are sure to find the fun they’re looking for at this four-acre recreation area that includes separate spaces for both large and small pups to enjoy off-leash adventures. Owners love the long runs, cooling pools for pets to splash in, and mix of both sunny and wooded areas.
A hose hookup is available so your furry friends can stay hydrated (and get a good wash after they play). Spend a long afternoon in this Northwest Charlotte pet park and keep the good times coming — and the tails wagging.
Barkingham Park
Just minutes from Downtown, you’ll find the aptly named Barkingham Park (formally known as Reedy Creek Dog Park). With a well-designed mix of open and forested areas, medium to large dogs have a world of fun available to them while their owners visit or chill in the shady seating areas.
Amenities like complimentary doggie waste bags, water stations, and ample parking spaces make this dog park a Charlotte standout. Located inside the 146-acre Reedy Creek Park, it’s easy to switch from off-leash to on and explore the 10 miles of walking trails after your pup gets his fill of socialization.
Charlotte offers convenient off-leash fun for dogs of all ages and sizes all year round, so grab your pal’s favorite toy and cross one of these fun doggie adventures off your bucket list.
